District: Theater

Visitors to downtown Houston can serve as their own walking tour guide in and around the Theater District with a new mobile-phone program that leads users step by step to some of the city’s most recognized landmarks.

Dubbed DMI, short for downtown mobile info, the new automated system is free to users. The tour narrative begins at Wortham Center, but users can begin the tour at any juncture by dialing
713-300-0892 and following the prompts. Signs at each stop help guide the way, and there’s a map of the tour.

Tour stops include Sesquicentennial Park, the “Seven Wonders” pillars, the Sabine Promenade, the “bayou bubble,” Buffalo Bayou Art Park, Jamail Skate Park, Wortham Theater Center, Jones Hall for the Performing Arts, George H. Bush Monument, Hobby Center and more.
