Mayor Sylvester Turner and Houston Public Library (HPL) Director Dr. Rhea Brown Lawson are hosting a final One Houston, One Book event. An Evening with Nikole Hannah-Jones and authors Ibi Zoboi, Dr. Yusef Salaam and Maria Hinojosa is taking place at The Hobby Center on September 21, 2023 at 6 p.m. Alexander Byrd, Vice Provost for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at Rice University, is moderating the program.
The award-winning journalist of "The 1619 Project" will lead a discussion on the importance of sharing diverse stories. Mayor Turner calls the grand finale event, "a celebration of reading and a testament to how our city comes together in a show of unity."
The event is free, and registration is open to the public. The authors' books will be sold on-site by Blue Willow Bookshop, Brazos Bookstore and Kindred Stories.
