No Longer on View

Sidewalk Cinema is an installation of contemporary video works in partnership with Aurora Picture Show. The second installment by Los Angeles based artist, Brian Bress, is made up of slow moving, nearly still video paintings Rickybird (mint, hot pink) and Still Life (orange to blue). The videos present human figures as scaffolding for sculptural forms and costumes and are meant to be a nod to futurism, minimalism, art deco, Bauhaus, the Memphis group, and more. Their tension between slow movement and stillness evokes the uncanny situation which Freud speaks of: “when an inanimate object becomes too much like an animate one”.
