Bovine & Barley: The Perfect Pair
New Restaurant Beefs Up Downtown Dining Options

Downtown’s bar and restaurant scene has exploded over the past few years, yet some may argue that early evening and late-night food options are still hard to come by. Enter Bovine & Barley –  the new urban bar and eatery by Michael Collins of well-known Midtown establishments, The Fish and The Refinery Burgers & Whiskey, and Jason Lowery formerly of Proof Rooftop Lounge in Midtown. Bovine & Barley will will be open early for lunch and plans to serve guests well into the night with a menu that focuses heavily on beef and has an extensive selection of craft beer.

“I’ve always loved hanging out Downtown, but it blew my mind that before us, there were really only a few places to get a good burger,” says co-owner, Jason Lowery. “And most of the bars in the area focus on craft cocktails. Other than Flying Saucer, there really isn’t a place that has as wide of a selection of craft beer, and there’s a huge market for that right now.” Thus, the concept of Bovine & Barley was born.

The beautifully designed space has an industrial feel and is complimented by warm wood accents. When you first walk into the restaurant, it’s hard to miss the huge HTX that hangs hangs illuminated on an exposed brick wall and automatically instills a sense of hometown pride.

Equally as noticeable are the 42 faucets that line the back of the bar, each with a different craft beer on tap. Half dispense local brews and six hold handcrafted cocktails. The restaurant is also in talks with two prominent local breweries, both of which have expressed interest in brewing a special Bovine & Barley beer that will only be available at the restaurant itself and is sure to be a draw for craft beer enthusiasts!

Highlights from the menu include brisket tacos and meatloaf muffins served on top of jalapeno mashed potatoes, but the must-try dishes are without a doubt the jalapeno bacon bites made up of juicy pineapple chunks wrapped with applewood smoked bacon and cream cheese and baked to a crisp and bubbly finish, and the 50/50 burger which consists of  slow-smoked brisket and a pork blend topped with sautéed mushroom and onions covered in melted Swiss and crispy jalapeno-flavored bacon. With so many tempting options on the menu, you’ll definitely be back for another visit.
