Lunch Your Way Through The Holidays

by Jordan Cutler    December 17, 2021

They say some of the best memories are made around the kitchen table, but before you break out your pots and pans, let’s explore some of Downtown Houston’s best lunch spots this season. Leave the holiday spread to the professionals, so you can savor amazing cuisine and create new memories with friends & family that will last for holidays to come.

Sit at award-winning Chef Hugo Ortega’s restaurant, Xochi and experience flavors and recipes that celebrate the culture and heritage of Oaxaca, Mexico. From Tuesday through Friday (11AM-4PM), stop in for lunch and enjoy Tlayudas––huge, fire-roasted tortillas with toppings of your choice––with a glass of agua fresca. If you’re like us and can’t decide, why choose? Pick two lunch items for $24 and let the flavors of each dish excite your palate.

Count on your Friday to get a whole lot better with lunch at Georgia James Tavern. Located in Market Square Tower, stop in on Friday’s (11AM-3PM) for a midday meal that boasts classic lunch dishes like Javi’s club sandwich and fried gulf fish, both of which are only available during Friday lunch. Complete your meal with an Elvis cookie, the exquisite creation of pastry chef Victoria Dearmond. A reminder, lunch is only available on Friday’s at GJT!

Make your way to the Bank of America Tower Monday-Friday (11AM-4PM) to enjoy a hearty lunch at Common Bond Brasserie & Bakery. With an array of traditional bistro staple dishes like a Wild Mushroom & Goat Cheese flatbread and French onion soup, Brasserie knows how to do lunch well. Of course, a stop at Common Bond would not be complete without an espresso to-go (to keep you going through the day) and a sweet treat from the bakery counter.

Elevated lunches are the gifts that keep on giving and expect nothing less from The Nash. Serving up weekday lunches (11AM-4PM), you can enjoy Modern American cuisine that puts a twist on your lunchtime favorites. Whether you’re dining on the patio and enjoying the fresh air, or gathering in the historic building, expect bold flavors––representative of all the bold and diverse cultures H-town has to offer. I mean where else can you experience Falafel, Hot Chicken Sandwiches, Tequeños and Cauliflower Paneer Curry all on one eclectic menu!? Enjoy the flavors that make up Houston, while sharing it with guests coming in from out of town––so they know just how awesome our city is too!

After having lunch at Cultivated F&B, you might not want any other meal to follow. Their signature lunch menu will most certainly have you making reservations for dinner after a theater show. Lunchtime favorites include the Braised Short Rib Tacos, Lancaster Crab Cakes and an American Kobe Burger served on a toasted Challah Bun. Located in The Lancaster Hotel, this intimate restaurant is the perfect lunchtime spot to escape the holiday hustle and bustle. We can’t think of anything that embodies the spirit of the holidays more than great food and good conversation––the essence of eating lunch at Cultivated F&B.
