Top Pizza Places in Downtown Houston

by Nicole Capelo    February 5, 2018

Pizza is a wonderful thing. Kids love it, adults love it… Seriously, how many times have you come across someone who doesn’t like pizza? It’s one of few foods that is truly universal as many cultures around the world have adopted the popular dish and made it their own. From classic toppings like pepperoni and sausage to tandoori chicken, crab meat, goat cheese, and pico de gallo, you can top a pie with almost anything. Lucky for pizza lovers, Downtown Houston has some of the city’s best options!

1. ARTE PIZZERIA

1010 Prairie

Nestled inside Conservatory, Houston’s very first food hall, Arte Pizzeria specializes in personal-sized pizzas packed with tons of flavor! A few of our favorites include one topped with prosciutto and brussel sprouts and another called the Bianca, topped with white sauce, 4 kinds of cheese (goat cheese, ricotta, mozzarella and fontina), slow roasted garlic, caramelized onions, spinach and green onions. We’d be remiss not to mention that Conservatory also has both a beer garden with 60+ beers on tap, as well as an in-house wine bar with a stellar list of reasonably-priced wines, many of which are sure to pair well with Arte’s handcrafted pizza selections.

2. BOMBAY PIZZA CO.

914 Main St.

This downtown favorite gives regular pizza a bit of international flare. Inspired by the cuisines of India, Bombay’s innovative creations are served on a homemade, dense, thin and crispy crust with toppings such as cilantro, tandoori chicken, garlic and artichoke hearts on the “Gateway to India,” or fresh spinach and four different cheeses on the “Saag Paneer.” Those feeling a little less adventurous can always opt for classic options like pepperoni, veggie lovers or supreme.

3. FRANK’S PIZZA + FRANK’S BACKYARD

417 Travis

Known around town for the “late night slice,” Frank’s Pizza has been serving Downtown Houston for as long as we can remember. Whether you’re looking for pizza by the slice, the whole pie, or other favorites like wings, cheesesticks and burgers, you’ll find them all here! What’s even better is Frank’s now has a “Backyard” where you can sit back, relax and enjoy your meal in an open-air patio space unlike any other in downtown!

4. GROTTO RISTORANTE

1001 Avenida de las Americas

If you’re looking to upgrade your pizza night, head to Grotto Ristorante located on Downtown’s restaurant row- Avenida Houston. This trendy Italian eatery specializes in Neapolitan thin crust pizzas like a traditional margherita with roma tomatoes, mozzarella and basil, or a roasted chicken pizza with mozzarella, goat cheese, caramelized onion, basil and tomato! Plus, compliment your meal with one of the 80+ selections on the restaurant’s extensive wine list!

5. OSSO & KRISTALLA

Both meat and veggie lovers will be satisfied with a variety of options like the Funghi pizza topped with plenty of mushrooms, shallots, kale and other goodness, or the Barbecue Pulled Pork pizza with smoky red onion, cilantro and mozzarella.
