Buffalo Bayou Partnership revealed its plans to renovate the Sunset Coffee Building into a multi-functional space the will house canoes, kayaks and bikes rentals, provide office space for the BBP and private event space. The building sits at Allen's Landing, the famous birthplace of Houston where the Allen Brothers landed in 1836 and was donned as the official Port of Houston in 1841.
The 100-year old building will begin its transformation this April, funded by a $500,000 federal grant and a $2.4 million donation from HoustonFirst and private donations. The renovation begins on the heels of an ongoing $55 million project of Buffalo Bayou Park that improves the running trails, bikeways and green space.
The Sunset Coffee Building is a great addition to the many improvements happening in the Historic District, such as the renovation of Market Square Park and the new crop of restaurants and bars joining classic hot spots and dives. We can't wait to see what else is in store for downtown Houston! In 2014, you can find us sitting back on the patio at Allen's Landing. sipping on a coffee and contemplating what color kayak we're going rent for our urban adventure down the bayou.Allen's Landing, Buffalo Bayou Partnership, Historic District, Sunset Coffee Building
