Midway Reveals New Name and Construction Plans for Iconic Downtown Mixed-Use Property
HOUSTON, TEXAS (April 4, 2013) – Today, Houston-based Midway, a fully integrated real estate investment and development firm, announced GreenStreet as the new brand for the premier mixed-use destination formerly known as Houston Pavilions.
“We are proud to reveal the GreenStreet name, which fully embodies the project’s potential through new physical improvements, tenants, branding and event programming,” said Midway CEO Jonathan Brinsden. “By creating a more aesthetic, inviting and synergistic experience for our guests and tenants, GreenStreet will become a unique Houston destination.”
Changes to the 568,294-square-foot property at 1201 Fannin Street include removing the existing implements in the interior corridor and creating a new linear urban park. This includes the installation of unique water features at Caroline and Main, a central courtyard and the addition of pavers, benches, planters, lawns and other natural architectural and environmental details along elevators, escalators and the interior walls. The linear urban park will span all three blocks and include mid-block crossings on Fannin and San Jacinto between Dallas and Polk.
A central courtyard in the project block between Fannin and San Jacinto; outdoor patios; updated wayfinding signage; and scaled lighting will enhance visitor experience. Vertical blade and banner signage on the project’s exterior wall facing Dallas will be used for tenant exposure and GreenStreet marketing, and upgrades to the façade of the adjoining parking garage on Clay between Main and Fannin will make it more easily recognizable for guests.
Construction will commence shortly after April 4 and is scheduled to take approximately six to nine months. During this time, Midway will continue to develop on-site event programming and accelerate leasing. The project will remain open and operating during construction.
Plans for the downtown project were announced at a press conference attended by Brinsden, City of Houston Chief Development Officer Andy Icken, Canyon-Johnson Urban Funds Managing Partner and CEO Bobby Turner, Executive Director of Central Houston and Houston Downtown Management District Bob Eury and other downtown dignitaries.
“GreenStreet is already a vibrant destination in downtown Houston, and with the expertise of Midway, it will become an example of, and catalyst for, successful retail development downtown,” said Mayor Annise Parker. “The success of GreenStreet is an important step in attracting more retail and entertainment to this neighborhood.”
To commemorate the occasion and learn of the property’s new name, hundreds of downtown residents and professionals will celebrate along San Jacinto Street at the Sip + Socialize Street Party on April 4 at 5:30 p.m. To get a taste of GreenStreet’s future event programming, guests will enjoy live music from SKYROCKET!, generously provided by presenting sponsor House of Blues, and food and drink samplings provided by GreenStreet tenants, Hotel Icon, Saint Arnold Brewing Company and Courvoisier. The Dynamo Girls will be on-site to toss GreenStreet t-shirts, provided by Lucky Strike, to guests who will also have a chance to win a staycation at Hotel Icon for completing a passport visit toall of the event booths.
